Ya hace unas semanas me lo venía diciendo desde la fotografía de unas entradas más abajo: - “Venga, ponte a hacer unas alpargatas como te enseñé que si lo dejas mucho se te olvidará”. - “Vale, Antonio (Lobato), que tienes razón”. Y me he puesto. Refresco la memoria con los vídeos y fotos que le saqué, cojo una de sus alpargatas para tomarla como modelo y allá que voy. Al rato de darle vueltas, cuando el misterio de su construcción se ha ido desvelando y descubres los pasos a seguir junto a la razón que los guía, te levantas el sombrero, y con un coctel de alegría y gratitud, brindas a la salud de...de nadie, como mucho a la de la inteligencia y manos de unos y otros que a través del tiempo han ido desarrollando un proceso que, de tan sencillo y lógico, asombra. ¡Jo, Antonio, qué razón tenías cuando me decías que esto era muy fácil! ¡El complicao es uno!
Un rato después, averiguado el intringulis general, al fijarte en la alpargata modelo empiezas a descubrir detalles: ese cordoncillo de tres ramales que refuerza el final del tejido, aquel ribetito que protege y engalana el empeine, aderezos encantadoramente gratuitos que dejan asomar el cariño y esmero que puso en la faena quien los hizo, aun consciente, probablemente, de que apenas nadie se fijaría en ellos. -“Te pillé Antonio, en esta cuña del tejido del talón hiciste trampilla. Claro, entiendo que no es fácil de solucionar el problema del semicírculo pero ¿y si pruebo a dar dos vueltas aquí en lugar de una?” - “Sí, parece que así funciona mejor, aunque hay que mejorar eso, eh!” - “Ya. Tiene usted razón, maestro. En la próxima.” Hoy día, con montañas de zapatos por todas partes, casi nadie usa ni le interesa este tipo de calzado. Pareciera un ridículo empeño el nuestro. Tal vez. Y tal vez también, lo único ridículo de verdad sea no hacer cosas ridículas. Seguimos con las alpargatas, no hay tiempo que perder, quedan un sinfín de posibilidades en el intento vano de llegar algún día a perfeccionarlas.

Espadrilles
A few weeks ago already that I keep telling myself from a picture bellow: -“Come on, put yourself with the espadrilles as I teach you ‘cause if you leave it for too much you’ll forget it”. – Okay, Antonio (Lobato), you’re right”. And I have put myself. I refresh my memory with the photos and videos that I took to him, pick up one of his espadrilles for use it as a model, and there I go. After a while of turning it over, when the mystery of its construction has gone revealing and one discovers the steps to follow along with the reason that guides them, rises one’s hat and, with a cocktail of joy and gratitude, makes a toast to the health of… of nobody, at most to the intelligence and hands of one and others that over the time have gone developing a process that, of so easy and logical, astonishes. ‘Jo’(1), Antonio, how much reason you had when you told me that this was very easy! The difficult is oneself!.
Having figured out the general intricacy, a moment later one begins to discover details by looking for in the model of espadrille: That thin cord of three strands that reinforces the ending of the tissue, that little edging which protects and adorns the instep, delightfully free dressings, which let appear the love and care that put in the task who made them, although aware, probably, that hardly anyone would notice them. –“I’ve caught you Antonio; you did a little cheating in this wedge of the heel’s tissue. Of course, I understand it isn’t easy to solve the problem of the semicircle but what if I try to make two turns here instead of one?”- “Yes it seems it works better this way, though we must to improve that, eh!”- “Yes. You are right, teacher. For the next one”.
Nowadays, with mountains of shoes every where, almost nobody uses nor is interested in this kind of footwear. Ours seems like a ridiculous effort. Maybe. And maybe also, the only thing truly ridiculous be not to make ridiculous things. We go on with the espadrilles, no time to loose, there are endless possibilities in the vain attempt to improve them some day.
